About the Role

As the Project Lead, you'll be at the forefront of DGMT's efforts to reduce alcohol-related harm in South Africa. Your strategic leadership and operational coordination will be key to aligning research, advocacy, communications, and litigation strategies. You'll drive systemic change through evidence-based interventions and strengthen stakeholder engagement across government, civil society, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction for the initiative
  • Lead alcohol harm reduction policy development and engage with relevant stakeholders
  • Commission and manage research projects, and translate findings into actionable strategies
  • Manage budgets, contracts, and reporting requirements, and coordinate implementing partners
  • Collaborate with DGMT's communications team to shape narrative framing and strategic messaging
  • Integrate monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks to refine strategy and share learning across the organization

Minimum Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in social sciences, development studies, public health, or related disciplines
  • 5-7 years of experience in program or project management, policy, legal, development, or health sectors
  • Experience in alcohol or tobacco harm reduction, gender and social inclusion, community development, and wellbeing and public health
  • Strong stakeholder management and partnership-building skills, and familiarity with legislative and regulatory environments

  • A confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills, and comfortable operating at the intersection of evidence and public debate
