Hend Sabry and Alia Bhatt Win Golden Globes Awards at Red Sea Film Festival (2026)

Hend Sabry and Alia Bhatt Receive Golden Globes Honors

The Golden Globes organization has announced that Tunisian actress Hend Sabry and Indian star Alia Bhatt will be recognized this year with the Omar Sharif Award and the Golden Globes Horizon Award, respectively. The honors were revealed during a reception at the fifth Red Sea International Film Festival edition.

“We are honored to present the Omar Sharif Award to Hend Sabry, a legendary performer and humanitarian whose work embodies the depth, influence, and global reach of Arab cinema, while also honoring Omar’s remarkable legacy as a pioneering Egyptian artist,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “We are equally excited to celebrate Alia Bhatt with the Golden Globes Horizon Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to international cinema and the continued emergence of the Middle East as a vibrant, influential center for film and TV on the world stage.”

Faisal Baltyour, CEO of the Red Sea Film Foundation, commented: “As we mark five years of the Foundation, we’re proud to help further establish the Red Sea IFF as a platform that enables filmmakers to gain global recognition—and as a growing force in the awards circuit. Our collaboration with the esteemed Golden Globes is a milestone, and it’s a privilege to honor Hend Sabry and Alia Bhatt, two exceptional actors whose work continues to shape the screen industries across the Arab World, Africa, and Asia.”

These accolades celebrate the contributions of creative figures from the Middle East, Asia, and North Africa. Omar Sharif, the first Egyptian-born actor to win a Golden Globe and a three-time Globes winner for Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago, remains a defining figure in the awards’ eight-decade history. The Omar Sharif Award honors his enduring legacy and influence on global cinema. The Horizon Award acknowledges an emerging creative force whose rapid rise in entertainment is making a notable impact on both regional and international culture.

Sabry expressed that she is deeply honored to receive an award named after a cinema legend from her region. She noted that her career has focused on elevating women with intricate stories and expressed pride in sharing the Golden Globes stage with Alia Bhatt, describing the moment as significant for women in the industry. Bhatt, for her part, said the honor reflects a moment for a new generation of aspiring performers and women who are reshaping film and television worldwide. She highlighted the importance of telling more inclusive, impactful stories and looked forward to continuing her work on powerful female-led narratives.

Sabry stands among the Arab world’s most celebrated and influential actresses, with a career spanning film, television, and international co-productions across Tunisia, Egypt, and neighboring regions. She rose to prominence through roles in landmark projects such as The Yacoubian Building, Scheherazade, Tell Me a Story, and Asmaa, earning recognition for portraying socially resonant, complex characters. Her work has earned multiple regional Best Actress awards, and she is credited with redefining how Arab women are depicted on screen. Beyond acting, Sabry is a vocal cultural leader and global advocate for Arab storytelling, extending her influence well beyond cinema.

Bhatt has become one of contemporary Indian and global cinema’s most influential figures, acclaimed for roles in Highway, Raazi, Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi, and Gangubai Kathiawadi—the latter earning international attention and solidifying her status as a global star. She has won several Filmfare Awards, including Best Actress, and has been listed among Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. In addition to acting, Bhatt is shaping the industry’s future through production and cross-border projects, representing a new era of globally minded storytelling leadership.
