Despite noting progress in areas like Artemis II readiness, improved oversight, and safe International Space Station operations, the panel also highlighted significant challenges. These include the high-risk posture of Artemis III, lessons from Boeing's Starliner test, space station deorbit planning, and systemic concerns. To address these challenges, the panel recommends that NASA realign its governance of acquisition strategies, re-examine the mission objectives and system architecture for Artemis III and subsequent missions, and require timely declaration of mishaps or high-visibility close calls.
