Erasmus hinted at adding an extra Test against England, a move reminiscent of South Africa’s standalone Wembley encounter with Japan last month. “The year already looks packed, but we’re up for another challenge if it can fit in before the year-end tour,” the Springboks’ boss said. “If there’s room to squeeze in an additional warm-up before autumn fixtures, we’ll seriously consider it. We’ll have to get the right people, including Charles [Wessels, Springboks General Manager], on the line to see what’s feasible.”
South Africa has largely mapped out its 2026 calendar, beginning with Nations Championship fixtures against England, Scotland, and Wales on home soil. The plan includes a three-Test series against the All Blacks in South Africa—dubbed the ‘Greatest Rivalry’ tour—with a fourth match scheduled for September on neutral soil. The team would then hit Europe to face Italy, France, and Ireland on consecutive weekends as part of the next Nations Championship slate, with a potential Finals date at the end of November.

Historically, South Africa has edged England in recent meetings, claiming four of the last five encounters, including the 2019 World Cup Final and the 2023 World Cup semi-final.
