This spacewalk was a significant achievement, marking the 25th such mission conducted by Chinese astronauts. Major Wu Fei, at 32 years old, became the youngest Chinese astronaut to carry out extravehicular activities, breaking a record previously held by Lieutenant Colonel Tang Shengjie, who made his first spacewalk at 34.
The Shenzhou XXI astronauts are part of China's 16th manned spaceflight mission and are the 10th group of residents aboard Tiangong. Currently, Tiangong is the only operational space station run independently by a single nation, making this mission even more remarkable.
For nearly 40 days, the three astronauts have called the colossal orbital outpost their home. During this time, they've examined instruments, performed maintenance work, checked emergency response materials, and conducted emergency drills and robotic arm training. But their work isn't done yet. The crew will conduct additional spacewalks and scientific tasks, and if feasible, they might even attempt to repair the broken viewport window on the Shenzhou XX spacecraft.
